Elise is paid a visit by a fellow graduate of the Officers' Academy at Rephidim, Eustace do Varr, son of Arch-Inquisitor do Varr. He brings Elise up to date on goings-on back in Rephidim particularly that the story of Sabel Sanguine and the Sword of the First Ones has been something of an inspiration to the cadets, and that it has led to the possibility that a new order of knights may be formed, named in honor of Sabel, as the Order of the Guardians of Sanguine Hall … or the Sanguine Guard. This and other Orders are planned to replace the Knights Templar as a highly visible and inspirational elite cadre of warriors who will serve the interests of the Temple. Elise is fascinated with the idea, and especially at hints that she herself might be considered for induction into this Order, once matters of selection are finalized. Eustace asks Elise to let him know of any suggestions she might have, as he values her input, and she wholeheartedly agrees to do so.
