Elise continues her work as an Executor, under Kaalaas's scorn and guidance. She travels to Abu Dhabi, where she tracks down a murderous rogue known as Rinaldo the Blade. Rather than take him down in a crowded bazaar, she opts to try to lure him away to a less crowded area, but he bolts, and it is only much later that Kaalaas is able to track him down. Elise finishes him off that time with little fuss, but Kaalaas still berates her for perceived incompetence.
In the Himar, Elise tries to track down another rogue, and tries to get information out of the locals the locals show open contempt for the authority of the Temple, so Elise makes an example of one of the most vocal ones, by silencing him permanently. She gets the information she requires, and makes a quick catch of her prey.
Back in Rephidim, Elise gets some time off, and visits with her sister, catching up on news. She seethes over the news that Seline von Shanar has been knighted.
Elise is called to the office of her superior, Arch-Inquisitor an Taegairt, who wants her assessment of her performance so far. He reveals to her that Kaalaas thought that her actions in Himar were decisive. He demands that Elise examine her own performance in greater detail, and present to him a report on what she really thinks she's doing wrong or right.
