Scarlet, still in Blackshire Village, waits for sundown, so she can meet with Schoolmaster Bakula. She gets distracted when three villagers come back with Born-in-Shame. The villagers wish for the cheetah warrior to slay the dragon, but he shows no such inclination. At last, the villagers are reluctantly persuaded that the village is in no danger from the three-headed beast. Born-in-Shame writes down a bit about himself for Scarlet, since she cannot understand Silent Sign … and she's a bit confused by the notion that he's a "Silent One" from Abaddon.
