Roho puts on one of the helmets in the Navigator's chamber, and tries to converse with an "artificial intelligence" to learn more about the "trees" and what effect they might have on the sanity of the island's inhabitants. His attempts at getting answers from the machine are largely thwarted, but at least he gets a map of the complex and a hint of an auxiliary terminal which might provide another means of access
