Alptraum gets a part-time job working for Cenesta Construction, and he is invited along with several youths and young adults to go on a tour of the Tower of Babel. There, he sees examples of Expedition-era technology, gets to try out a bug-weapon, and asks several questions of a speaker (getting the speaker somewhat annoyed with Alptraum's outspoken opinions). Alptraum also gets a glimpse of the mysterious General, though he never finds out just what name to attach to the person.
