Elise summons Jiraud and Seline under the pretense of a duel to Sanguine Hall, and has Tremaine bolt the doors from the outside once they're present. The older cadets are upset by this trickery, but Elise uses the opportunity to share with them what she has learned of the truth behind the "Sword of the First Ones". Jiraud doesn't seem to believe a word of it, though Seline has her doubts, when she is presented with proof in the form of the design on the blade itself … and when Sabel is summoned, and she does not deny any of Elise's accusations, while subtly sidestepping them at the same time and playing innocent. Sabel plays upon Jiraud's feelings, acting the part of the damsel in distress and playing him off of Seline and Elise. Elise remembers the Sifran crystal pendant given to her by Eve, and recalls how Sabel took such care not to touch it. On a hunch, she flings the pendant at Sabel while she's distracted. The pendant goes through Sabel. Jiraud does not see this, but Seline does, and Sabel's true nature is thus displayed to at least two of those present.

Sabel continues acting up the part of the damsel in distress, pitting Jiraud against Seline and Sabel, but at last when Jiraud attacks Elise, Seline runs into him, and Elise uses the opportunity to sock him with her gauntlet, putting the Doberman down for the count. Sabel casts aside her charade, threatening Elise and Seline, but neither of the two wish to end this in a battle, not wishing to repeat history. Sabel continues to taunt them, but at last Elise makes a proposal – that Sanguine Hall be made into a museum to honor those who have given their lives for Rephidim – including Sabel's family – and also that House von Shanar come out with the truth behind Sabel's fate. Seline is crestfallen at this, but agrees. Sabel at last fades away, robbed of the power of anger and vengeance that has fueled her thus far.

Seline is not exactly cheerful about the outcome, since she sees this as a disgrace that will be brought on her house, and perhaps she would have rather sacrificed her life to end the curse instead. Elise, however, is heartened by this outcome, and draws hope from it.
