Priest Killian Threadar tells a tale of St. Trinia of the Seven Signs, a Kavi Saint of the Temple, to an audience that includes Elise and Katherine de Bellefeuille. Afterward, Elise speaks briefly with Priest Threadar, seeking to apply a message from this sermon to her own life.
Later, Elise retires to her home, where she reads a letter from Cyprian about troubles in Babel. She also receives an invitation to a Ring Day celebration at the de Medici estate. She accuses her sister, Katherine, of making arrangements to get her to this party, but Katherine supposed that Elise had pulled some strings. Between the two of them, they learn that neither one of them had anything to do with it, per se.
