Elise comes home to Rephidim, sporting a cast, and is greeted at the docks by her mentor, Tremaine, and her sister, Katherine, and is joined by her new assistant, Indigo. She announces her plans to start an orphanage, and to have the stables prepared for her two new mounts: Secrets and Mystery. She learns that there are guests at the estate: Leisa and Keyni, the mother and son that she encountered in dreams in the Realm of Gorphat – and relatives of Cyprian.

During some discussion over dinner, Katherine finally comes to realize that Elise is romantically attached to Cyprian, given her many references to him, and her mannerisms, even though Cyprian is not present. At this realization, Katherine leaves the table, and Elise goes after her, to find her sister crying. Katherine angrily rebukes Elise, and Elise, realizing her own forbidden love of Cyprian, is emotionally overcome.
