Envoy awakens in the ruin in which she sought shelter in the "Wound" in the center of Babel, and makes her way through the ruins, trying to get up and to more civilized areas. She encounters an armed Eeee on the back of a ptera, part of a patrol of the "Wound" … and it's none other than Wynona. Wynona takes Envoy back to the patrol craft, and Envoy tells Wynona her story – though Wynona expresses disbelief when Envoy claims she was stabbed by Captain Karada. It turns out that Wynona knows Captain Karada, who is also on the patrol (and who is captain of the guard of Rephath's temple).

Wynona then takes Envoy back to the Mages' Guild, and on the way Envoy guesses that Wynona has an emotional attachment to Karada – a guess that Wynona confirms with some embarrassment. She relates that she is tired of feeling helpless and weak, and wants to become "strong", just like Captain Karada.

Back at the Mages' Guild, Envoy is presented to the guard, where she requests shelter after her long ordeal.
