Alptraum has to deal with the guardian of the tomb … and that requires a sacrifice that changes his view of the world. Namely, he gives blood and life to it and in return, he sees the world as a tree does. When he comes to, he is extremely weak and must be fed quickly to sate both his body needs as well as what his right arm needs.

Once full, he returns and Snow manages to take the heart into the pool to purify it. The Eeee learns quickly that he can't touch the water, since he exists as a possessed creature … and any conact causes extreme pain.

On the way back Alptraum ends up talking to the human they rescued and immediately wishes he hadn't. He had to endure numerous insults about his kind, among other things. Eventually he is quite blunt with the human on a great many topics. Some she learns from … but most she just doesn't understand.
