With the communication network restored, the exploration team heads on to the Protein Synthesis Factory otherwise known as the Meat Factory. Within, they find examples of the machines and biological bases used to fabricate many of the species who now populate the planet of Sinai. Both Layth and Tasha find themselves in awe, historic as the site is. But, having a mission to complete, the two and Gabriel press on to collect the various samples necessary for organic fabrication on the Bellerophon. The process of collection is long and painstaking, and by the time it's complete, the three agree they need a break. That break is provided by the Terran military firing range, which Gabriel brings the two young people to in order to get them to relax. The lockers are filled with recreational 'marker' guns, but that's not what catches Tasha's interest. Inside the last, and locked, locker is massive Gauss rifle that the woman is positively giddy over. Insisting on firing it, she's shown how and does so, cackling at the results. Her fellows interpret the laughter as other than positive, though. The three argue, putting Tasha on the defensive until she lashes back, and by the end each person realizes they're alone, together, and that maybe learning to understand each other more deeply wouldn't be a bad thing.
