Elise dreams again, returning to the dream reality of the Carnival of Inala, though this time not accompanied by Envoy or Lochinvar. She enters the Hall of Mirrors, and in one of the reflections sees the foppish fox, who sings a song meant to give her some clues … but one side-effect of this encounter that every move as he makes as he dances about is mirrored by Elise, whether she likes it or not!
Elise, humiliated by this incident, moves on through the mirrored maze, her image distorted in many comical and grotesque ways … but then she sees a mirror with a reflection of herself that can't be accounted for by mere warped glass. It's an image of Elise as an ethereally beautiful lady in a gorgeous gown. Elise lingers on the image … and when she looks away … she finds that she has transformed into the likeness of the reflection! Her armor has been replaced by the gown, and her sword has been replaced by a fan.
Elise continues on her way, and encounters another reflection, this one showing her as a fierce warrior. Elise moves on … but the reflection follows her, and breaks out of the mirror, chastising Elise and attacking her. Elise, finding that she suddenly hasn't the heart to fight in her present form, flees. She encounters a reflection of herself as a scholar, and the doppleganger offers Elise a scornful critique. At last, Elise finds her way out of the maze, and into another, new area…
