Arch-Inquisitrix Esther yodh Rahab interviews Sky Corporal Elise de Bellefeuille for a position as an Investigator for the Rephidim Temple. Esther goes over Elise's credentials, and then notes that Elise supported the Veneration of the First Ones petition signed about four years ago, and that this movement would put her squarely at odds with Esther's own beliefs in the Star. Elise recognizes their differences in beliefs, and asserts that it will not harm their work relationship, and Esther accepts this. Esther than gives Elise a choice: to join the Temple overtly, or covertly. Elise chooses the covert option, and is told that she will be assigned a "respectable but ultimately useless" position in Gallis … but will secretly be working as a spy for the Temple.
