Elise meets Cadet Jiraud at a little-known dormitory called Sanguine Hall. Elise wears full armor for the duel, while Jiraud is unencumbered, giving him greater mobility at the expense of leaving him vulnerable should Elise actually strike him with her blade … but the object of the duel is to lop the head off of a flower pinned in one's opponent's breast pocket. The fight gets intense, and Elise tries to win by covering her flower with one hand and cutting at Jiraud's flower with her sword, but Jiraud kicks her back. Rather than trying to catch herself, Elise makes a desperate stroke, taking Jiraud's flower, but she then crashes down the stairway, breaking her arm and several other bones.
