After the feast comes the wine and other alcoholic drinks. Alptraum, being a vampire, has a low tolerance and is soon in his cups and singing horribly along with his friend Hexen. Tulani fares much better, due to her drinking experience as a sailor and to being half-Vartan.

Talk revolves around various things, including the love lives of the two guests, embarrassing stories and so forth. Tulani's scar is brought up, and she's a bit hurt when Hexen laughs at her assertion that she's really a dragon. Alptraum's own chest scar bring causes his mother to grab him after he says he was stabbed in the heart.

Things turn to Alptraum's involvement with a gorgio (non-gypsy) woman, and when she will be introduced to the gypsies. His mother also shows disapproval over his supposed involvement with several Eeee women, and says he should choose 'nice girls' like Tulani. This brings up memories of what happened in the wagon, and Tulani excuses herself to take a walk.

Alptraum catches up to her, and she explains that her 'scales itch' and she needs a bit of dragon-time. The Eeee suggests a little prank, and Tulani goes along. Heading back to the party, Alptraum says Tulani went off to bathe in the creek, which gets Hexen's attention.

The fox staggers off in search of the Sphynx, and gets just a glimpse of her in the river before Tulani shifts into her dragon form and gives him a terrible fright, explaining that dragons don't like it when people don't believe in them.

A chastened Hexen returns to the camp, only to excuse himself to change his pants.
