Alptraum is set free from the Coalition Tower, and he travels by foot across Babel, fending off troublemakers along the way. At last, he makes it to Mount Sunala, where he finds Zana, the acolyte he saved on his birthday. He also learns that Nekara is there, and he chooses to face her, rather than to avoid her. Nekara apologizes for her actions in the tower, and indicates that though she does not believe that Alptraum is a deity – nor the young girl who calls herself "Sunala" – she nonetheless believes that the Yodhsunala have done much lately to increase the glory of Sunala's name, by trying to aid the people of Babel in their time of need. Alptraum considers that some good may have come of all this after all.
