Back at Blackshire Keep, Scarlet searches for the missing crystal shard, trying to keep hidden from Jynx, whom she believes to be the legendary assassin, Shikouju. She tries using her magic wand to "find the fragment", but the "find" spell has already been exhausted … and the word "fragment" causes a chunk of the submerged tower wall to crack.

Jynx rushes to warn everyone to flee the tower, but Scarlet finds another word – "Fasten", to avert catastrophe. Scarlet hides again, as Jynx goes down to the Garden Hall to discuss with his grandmother the evening's events. Grandmother Martinette is less than sympathetic with Jynx's desire to get revenge on Count Vlad, but she agrees to train him in unarmed combat.

Scarlet searches in vain for the crystal fragment, and at last comes down, where she asks Jynx if he is the grandson of Shikouju. He answers that he is, and then berates Scarlet for nearly flooding the castle with her wand. Scarlet waves the wand at Jynx as she makes a retort, and refers to Martinette as Jynx's "female friend". The word "female" sets off the wand again, and Martinette slams Jynx to the floor in an apparently successful attempt to protect him from the power of the wand. As wild magic bounces about the room, Scarlet urges Martinette to let the spell affect Jynx … which earns a cold glare from the lioness.

At last, the magical aura rises out of the castle, and into the swamp waters. Everyone rushes up to see what is going on … and they arrive in time to see three dragon heads rise out of the muck … then another three dragon heads. It would seem that a female three-headed dragon has been created, and the two enormous creatures make googly eyes at each other … then fly away, apparently quite happy.

This doesn't exactly lift Scarlet's spirits, though, and Jynx's tirade at her doesn't help matters, either. She retires to the top of the tower, and Born-in-Shame suggests to Jynx that his behavior is inappropriate toward a lady … but also that Scarlet's place is not here. He recommends sending her back to Rephidim, and the cheetah knight volunteers to accompany her.

Back up in the tower room, Jynx presents this idea to Scarlet, offering to pay her way and to give her a good letter of recommendation to the Collegia Esoterica. Scarlet wishes to take the cursed blade from the armory with her, on a quest to dispose of it in Bosch. Jynx relents and grants permission for her to do so.
