As the evening wears on, Autumn-Storm disappears, last seen in the company of Marvo the Gigi, and Alptraum decides to go exploring the island by air – flying over the ruined temple that he was told it is a taboo to visit after nightfall. He sounds out the area of the temple, and detects three Gigis that scatter at the noise and try to hide in the jungle. Alptraum pursues them, calling out after them. Two of them shoot blowgun darts at him – and one hits Alptraum's leg. The dart is tipped in a poison that includes horrib venom, and Alptraum's leg goes numb … and the numbness begins to spread. Rather than taking any chances in trying to fly back toward the shore and toward the others, Alptraum opts to land immediately in the jungle nearby. He hastily tends to his wound, trying to stem the spread of the poison, but while he's doing so, the Gigis he discovered violating the taboo come across him – They are, for whatever reason, painted with spots, and a female is apparently their leader, claiming that Alptraum will make a suitable prize for "Amena" … right before having one of her lackeys knock Alptraum unconscious.
