Jynx wakes up in the guest room at Eve's townhouse, having stayed there the night. He heads downstairs for breakfast, and learns that Great Aunt Alysin – a mentally-unstable relative who passed on recently – left Eve her title of "Duchess", a townhouse in Rephidim, the old opera house, and a sizeable sum of shekels. He furthermore finds out that he is receiving some inheritance as well … though the text of the will suggests that Alysin was mistaken about the gender of Feli "Jynx" Kurai.

A dress is bequeathed to Jynx, purported to have enchanted properties, but Jynx lets Eve have that. Also inside the trunk presented to him (alas, on his TAIL) by Gnarr are a number of iron bars, a painting of a castle in Sylvania, and the deed to Blackshire Keep (as well as a map on how to get there). Jynx is most interested in this estate, especially since his parents have booted him out of the house ("If he's old enough to go gallivanting about Sinai, he's old enough to live on his own.") and he'd rather not spend his days living in the "Pink-and-Pretty Palace-of-Doom" with his little sister.
