Envoy, after spending the night in the Mages' Guild of Babel, gets up and is told that she has a "visit" from Mage Faust (formerly Dean Faust) of the Sphere of Spirit. She goes to a dark room, where a spirit form of Faust – a magical "puppet", remotely controlled – materializes, and informs Envoy of the events that transpired in Rephidim, where a Knight Templar helped Srinala/Sunala escape from the mages. Envoy is sternly warned that if she receives any word, she is to inform Caroban, and not to be a "loose cannon".
