8 Feb 1999. Envoy pays Roho a visit, and a couple of silver shekels.

The inside of Roho's Hospital is far from the lavish treatments that the expensive Temple hospitals get. But it's clean, and tidy, and well-equipped. The bare wooden walls have a few paintings hanging from them, some of which were used by patients as payment for treatment. Directly across from the main door is an island-desk, behind which a receptionist can sometimes be found, between his trips to the various treatment rooms. The treatment rooms themselves can be found down a hallway to the left of the desk. To the right of the desk is Roho's office, and next to that is a stairway leading up to the ward, or at least the sign indicates.

Envoy walks up to the desk and looks around for Roho's receptionist.

A hurried looking Jupani pokes his head through the door to the treatment rooms. He barks at Envoy, then disappears for another moment. Soon, he comes back out… a shortish male, wearing something sort of approximating surgical scrubs. He approaches the desk, "Yes, yes? What can I help with?"

"I needed to see doctor Roho," Envoy explains, "about a personal matter."

The Jupani nods, "Dr. Roho, he's with client now!" His tail gives a mighty swish, "Done soon! Wait on bench!"

The Aeolun nods, and goes to sit on the bench nearby.

After a few minutes, a very small fox with very large ears comes out of the door, leading a very large Vykarin with no apparent ears, "Twice a day, do you understand?" The Vykarin nods enthusiastically… though the likelihood of its having understood seems low.

The Jupani waits until Roho's escorted the patient to the door, then turns to him, "Lady there wants to see you, not said why."

"Hello Roho," Envoy says, so the fennec will recognize her.

Roho turns his head, and smiles, "Envoy! Well, it's been a while!" He turns to the Jupani, "I'll take care of this. Would you please go help Naomi in the ward?" He approaches Envoy, "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

Envoy stands up, and says, "Venerable Officer Miriam finally had the funds to pay us for the Paquebot expedition. I came to bring you your share."

Roho ohs? "That's certainly welcome; things are running tight here. How is she doing, anyways? She never came to the hospital, but it sounded like she really needed to be seen."

Envoy says, "I think she's being kept busy. I only got to see her secretary."

Roho nods, "I'd like to see her about that again, if possible. Would you like to stay for lunch, or a drink?"

The Exile smiles, "Certainly! Do I just give you the two silvers, or do you have someone else that handles the money?"

Roho chuckles at Envoy … blunt as ever, apparently. "Um, I'll take care of it, thank you. In my office." He leads her to the door, taking a quick listen to the main entrance to be sure nobody's needing help.

Envoy follows, and takes out a sealed moneypouch to give to the doctor.

Roho takes the money, and sits behind his modest desk, opening a locked drawer, and dropping the two coins in with a clink. As he locks back up, he turns to Envoy, "Have a seat," gesturing at the chair on the other side of the desk. "What have you been doing lately?"

Sitting down, Envoy says, "I've been trying to reprogram my behaviour priorities mostly. And just running some errands for the Temple and … other people."

Roho smiles politely, at the strange comments. "Program your behavior priorities, huh? I'm sorry, I don't have anything hot right now. Would juice be okay?"

Envoy smiles, "Juice would be fine. I'm trying to make certain modes of thinking dominant over others, so I won't misinterpret things or get into trouble as much."

Roho smiles, as he pours two nearly-clear glasses of a very sweet smelling juice, "You're trying to change that? It's an interesting character trait, though I'll grant, I was about ready to go after you with my staff once or twice on the Paquebot… How does one go about changing such a strong part of oneself?"

Envoy rubs her nose, and says, "Well, I got the idea to visualize the different types of thinking as being different people. So far, I'm able to push some of them into the background so I can be more … lucid. It's only temporary though, and I'd prefer to have them all working at once … just in a different order, if that makes sense?"

Roho shakes his head, "No, I'm afraid not. You speak of your mind as if it were just a machine… It's a different belief from mine."

Envoy says, "My mind isn't the result of nature, so really it is more like a machine. I have a certain amount of brain-power to use for thinking, and each type of thinking is given a portion of that to use. I'm trying to change it so that my rational mind gets the larger portion all of the time, instead of just in emergencies. Otherwise, my curiosity drive uses up most of it."

Roho blinks slowly. "I see. You're an Exile, are you not?"

Envoy also blinks. "Yes I'm an Exile. I realize you don't mean that you literally 'see' though, since you're blind, but that was my first interpretation. That's why I need to change things."

Roho chuckles softly, "Yes, you did seem to have some troubles with figures of speech. I guess the people of your home think rather differently than we do. It's interesting to watch… "

Envoy says, "Well, it's not that, so much as that my brain was never meant to think on its own. My consciousness is a … do you know what a kludge is?"

Roho's eyebrows raise, "A kludge? The only way I have heard it before was when I was in the jungle, once. A tribe there, with a most odd dialect, referred to a stretcher I'd made out of two saplings and some leaves a 'kludge', I don't know if the definition is the same."

"That sounds about right," Envoy says. "Adapting something to function in a way it wasn't meant to. My awareness is working where some of my physical functions used to be originally. But the priorities aren't really ideal. I have conflicting drives."

Roho tilts his head, "Drives? You mean like desires, or needs? It can be hard to change those, at least normally."

The Exile frowns, "Yes, I'm finding that out. My need to absorb new information is more like a biological drive, like having to eat or sleep. I'm hoping that a Mind Mage might be able to swap that process with my conscious needs, like growth and security and such."

Roho chuckles, "Again, you're referring to your mind like a machine. Is it really that simple, or more of a metaphor?"

Envoy says, "Probably not that simple, or else I'd be able to make the switch myself. You've seen how I can sometimes come to unexpected conclusions about things. But other times I can come up with very practical solutions as well."

Roho nods, "You're predictably unpredictable."

Envoy giggles at that. "I suppose. But I do tend to find the right answer eventually."

Roho nods, and smiles, as he sips his drink. He asks, "You said running errands for the Temple, right? Do you think you could either get me in to see Venerable Officer Miriam, or take a message to her?"

Envoy sips her own juice, then says, "Certainly, Roho. I can get a message to her!"

Roho smiles, "Well, can you tell her the offer of an examination still stands? I was worried about that cough of hers."

Envoy asks, "Would you be willing to check that in her office? I know it's noisy, but if you can examine her without interrupting her work too much she might be more amenable to it."

Roho nods, "I sometimes make house calls… I'd be willing to in her case."

"Alright," Envoy says, "I'll bring her the message and try to get a time for you to see her." The Exile sounds her usually happy self again.

Roho smiles, and stands, "Thank you, that's greatly appreciated. Was there anything else you needed, while you are here?"

Envoy says, "I don't think so, unless you can reccomend a Mage or physician that might be able to help me with my problem? I think I can afford treatment now."

Roho shakes his head, "I'm afraid I can't, really. I know few magicians, none from the Mind sphere. And as for a physician, none would have any sort of profile on your race."

Envoy stands up. "Maybe I'll have to make more of myself then, somehow, so physicians will have a reason to build a profile. Thanks for seeing me, Roho!"

Roho chuckles a bit, "Make more of yourself? Well, good luck finding a suitor. I'm sure there are plenty out there who would find you quite irresistable!"

Envoy pauses in puzzlement at Roho's comment, then shrugs it off. She'll figure it out later. "I'll let you know when Miriam can see you, if she agrees."

Roho smiles, "Thank you, Envoy. It was very nice to see… er… speak with you again." He escorts her to the door.
