Zephyr appears in the hostile desert and encounters unfriendly Kavis, who promptly capture him and prepare to sacrifice him by exposure, strapping him to radioactive fuel cannisters as an 'altar' near a crash-landed shuttle. Crista, an outcast Solu, discovers Zephyr and rescues him from the Kavis, not without injuries, and they are in turn rescued by friendly Kavi traders
