Envoy returns to Zakaro's Realm, and finds that Wynona and Yffryn are engaged in battle. Wynona makes use of her ability to control the wind and lob lightning, while Yffryn repeatedly changes the environment to exploit Wynona's nightmares and catch her off guard. Neither of them has to pause to perform rituals, instead able to fire off spells with quick incantations. Envoy attempts to goad Zakaro, and find some way of defeating her, and to help Wynona by shouting advice to her. Yffryn is angered by this, and goes too far when she conjures up a dream of the dropping of the boomer on Babel in particular, the Mages' Guild. This gains the attention of Rephath.
Envoy tries to encourage Rephath to take action against Zakaro, but Rephath only allows Envoy to exact vengeance for herself by letting her use her double-bladed axe. Envoy then attempts to attack Zakaro, but the sorceress has powers of her own, and unleashes them upon Envoy. A battle ensues, the scenery still changing around them, until, during a reenactment of the "Ritual of Transference" that happened years before, Envoy is caught up in the scene change, and is transformed into a fuff'nar. Envoy latches onto Yffryn's achille's tendon and holds on, distracting the fox'taur long enough for Wynona to lob a stunning blast at her.
At Envoy's urging, Wynona refuses to finish off the stunned Yffryn, and announces that she has no need for more power, as promised by Zakaro. As she does this, the realm starts to darken, while Zakaro just returns to gorging herself at her banquet. Wynona expresses reservations about leaving Zakaro to "die", but Envoy insists that Zakaro isn't even real in the first place. They drag Yffryn out of the fading realm, and back to the Crossroads.
