Elijah and his companions arrive at the Sanctuary of Amber, and find that there are many delegations present there, as well as representatives of the various Lances of the Knights Templar. He learns that the Temple is planning to disband the Knights Templar, but the nature of this Order is such that this does not necessarily mean that all former Knights Templar will be going into retirement – There are others petitioning the Knights Templar to join their ranks, and suggestions that they might form an independent organization based in Shabar, Fetiss, or – at Elijah's suggestion – Paradys. Elijah returns the Amber Mask to the present Champion of Amber, and consults his fellow Shadow Lancers (Shade and Vague) and his companions about what should be done next.
