Tirro presents his newly acquired sword to the Guildbrother S'Lezan, who is holding court in the Open Arms, and asks to be sponsored for journeyman; S'Lezan tries to put him off, when Crista delivers a message. After a chilly reception when Crista asks for a tip, she angrily departs, only to encounter the soldiers storming the tavern of ill repute. Crista and Tirro hide in the trapdoor while S'Lezan tries to reason with the Inquisitor, and S'Lezan is eventually able to satisfy the Inquisitor Ceasar's demands. Crista leaves angrily, and Tirro is welcomed into S'Lezan's confidence
