Young bucks and does in leather training armor use blunted weapons to practice attack and defense, along with young Vykarins learning to be mounts. This prompts Tasha to wonder if the armor she's been given is also 'training armor' and a discussion breaks out on what sort of 'visiting warrior' Tasha should present herself as. The best suggestion is that she comes from a Wandering Roams tribe, which follow the Goliaths and are prone to mutations – and are also not expected to have experience fighting other groups of Amazonians.

Tasha also learns that Amazonians don't have 'bars' or other places for drinking and carousing.

After the training exercise ends, the group goes to Lucia's room to await her and Layth's return from the baths. There is much teasing when the doe and buck arrive, and things turn to a discussion of food, which gets everyone hungry. Roland decides they should all go out and have a picnic.
