After waking to another shadow-play of past events in the Bio Lab, Envoy makes preparations for waking Icarus. First she returns the power core to the battledroid and puts it into standby mode – which also raises the gate that was blocking her from leaving the lower levels.

In order to avoid traumatizing Icarus, she goes to the vivisection chamber and extracts the crystal components from the skeleton there, before regretfully disposing of the bones down the incinerator chute.

Back in her own laboratory, Envoy changes into her dried clothing and checks the mail drop, surprised to find a letter for Arch-Inquisitor Melchizedek! In it she finds that Caroban has recalled Ra from her pursuit, more due to the political problems he caused than because of their love for Envoy. Ra is politically connected, it seems, but Envoy's reputation with the governments he's offended is still important.

She returns to the lowest level of the base, and into the hidden chamber, where she starts the delicate and risky resuscitation procedure.
