After returning from the underground tunnels, Zahn checks in to see how Clover is recovering. The doe has a cast on her head and is reading a book, and also seems to be filling back in after starting on solid food again.
She tells Zahn that the cast is from Igor that he did something to get rid of the scars in her scalp. The book turns out to be one of Dr. Pike's romance novels, about six Lapi sisters being wooed by a Cervani book. Clover picks apart the plot, and says that it's boring and unrealistic and doesn't have enough action.
She's amazed to find out that Zahn is still a virgin, since Parsley had promised not to do anything until Clover was feeling better, and since Amelia was taking her time.
Zahn fills her in on some of the events in town, and that he suspects one of his ancestors had the same experience as Clover. He also wonders about having to meet Clover's parents, and learns that the twins barely ever talk to them. Clover is surprised at how involved Zahn's parents are in his life.
They try a bit of cuddling of snogging, but Clover's return to solid food also means her bowels are twitchy and she has to run to the bathroom whenever she gets too excited, so Zahn just stays with her until she falls asleep.
