Lochinvar dreams again, reenacting a scenario back during his days as a dockworker, in which he is mocked for his half-breed status. However, he refuses to allow the situation to devolve into a fight, despite the goading of Rephath, who appears in his dream as a barmaid. Rephath, frustrated, releases Lochinvar from the illusory scenario, then argues with him about his attitude toward gaining revenge on others. She then insists that Babel deserves revenge for the dropping of the "boomer", and conjures up Cyprian to serve as a guide, providing a glimpse of the horrors inflicted as a result. Lochinvar offers to help track down Captain Rockmore, who was responsible for the accident, but only to turn him over to the proper authorities not to exact vengeance. Rephath is displeased, and admonishes Lochinvar to act as her champion.
