At the underground entry to the Chalk catacombs, Zahn and Amelia summon Buffy to tell her about Clover and ask her about things. Buffy admits to Zahnrad that she really doesn't know about anything that happens beyond the chalk itself, and isn't sure what's wrong with Clover from his description.

To give the vampire a better picture of Clover's state, Zahn offers to let Buffy bite him to get his memories about it. Buffy isn't sure it would work with a male who wasn't a Lapi, so suggests kissing instead. This makes Zahn lightheaded, and almost works, but Buffy says he needs to try harder, and shapeshifts into a duplicate of Amelia.

Zahn is able to kiss with a bit more passion this time, and Buffy gets the full memories while Zahn gets his strength sapped. She still isn't sure what's wrong with Clover, but agrees that the doe isn't just insane, and suggests to Amelia that she try some witch techniques normally used for possessed people.
