Francisco, after draining the life of Rache in order to heal a wound to his gut, and after the spirit of Amaranth has left him, has sought out another victim in an attempt to heal the wound on the back of his neck. After that, he lost control, and ended up slaughtering a total of twenty-four Darksiders.

Francisco travels in secret to Roho's Hospital at Freedom Park, disguised via magic as a Zerda, and leaving his Shiga cloak behind, though taking the staff of the Sixth Kadam with him. Roho is not there, but Naomi takes a look at him … and is repulsed by what she finds, as the wound has been greatly corrupted, and she finds it hard to believe that "Cravit" (the "Zerda") could have come here under his own power. She heads off to get "help", leaving the "Zerda" alone in the room.

While he's there, he observes a wagon rolling up outside, driven by the Bazaar merchant Yosah – a Skeek. Some Jupani Guards charge into the room and demand that Francisco get down on the floor. He refuses twice, and then they attack. Francisco avoids getting hacked, and flees out the window. He tries to lose himself in a crowd … but finds that the crowd outside happens to be a mob that is out for blood – that of the "vampire fox", in particular.

Yosah offers to help Francisco, as Qing and Willow arrive in a carriage. Francisco accepts the offer, and they gallop off toward the Collegia Esoterica, with Qing's carriage in pursuit. A Korv merchant drops a container of bugs, and Yosah instructs Francisco to smear an "antidote" onto his head to "repel" the bugs – although the antidote smells awfully sweet, and it's like syrup.

The Skeek falls out of the wagon during the chase, and the wagon topples just outside the gates of the Collegia Esoterica. Qing's carriage rolls around to block the way through the gates, and the Guards get out to block off possible escape. Willow goes up to take the cursed staff from Francisco, but gets zapped by its unholy energies in the process. Guards shove Francisco to the ground, as Qing enacts spells to – he hopes – exorcise Amaranth from Francisco. Alas, she's already gone, though side-effects of the spell cause the staff to go dormant, and cause Francisco's illusory disguise to dissipate.

A swarm of bugs – from the box dropped by the Korv – descends upon Francisco. Qing enacts another spell to banish Amaranth's influences from Francisco, after she seems to "manifest" in the form of a disembodied voice. What ends up happening, though, is that Francisco's corrupted body dissolves into a swarm of bugs that pours out of the wound on the back of his neck.

Thus end Francisco's adventures on Sinai.
