After cleaning up from the chalk storm, the group continues to explore the underground canal. They pass the boat dock for the chalk tunnels this time, and keep going. After a long way, they come across a chamber with stone levers.
After a bit of wasted effort on the first lever, they enter the chamber and try the second one. This one goes down, the chamber seals off, and the water level drops until they've descended to a new level and the door opens again.
They come upon an intersection of canals next, each marked by a different totem: a toothy frog, a two-headed skeek, the hungry gargoyle they came down through and a saber-toothed rabbit. They decide to check the Toothy Frog canal first.
They end up in a fantastic underground grotto lit by crystals and sporting a hot spring and pretty mineral growths. Zahn takes to the hot spring to wash off the stink from having fallen into the water earlier. Olivia decides to sketch the place, and Dr. Pike and Amelia try to puzzle out the door on the first of a series of apparent apartments.
Zahn finds the skull of a skeek in the pool, with two big punctures in it that probably came from really big fangs. Pike determines that it wasn't killed to be eaten, but was just killed and left there.
Zahn and Pike then get the door open finally, and the group prepares to investigate.
