Francisco, in league with the ghost known as Amaranth, journeys to the Old Cemetery, with the Shiga skin and the Karnoran (Jupani blood) that he obtained during previous adventures. Ironically, he is led to the very same stone altar where cultists of the Sixth Kadam had tried to sacrifice him in a ritual to raise Dagh some time ago.

Francisco sets up the magic circle and the candles, placing the skin in the center of the altar and pouring the blood upon it as directed by Amaranth, while she summons forth her powers to enact the dark ritual, calling upon the dark powers of Sinai – various dark spirits worshipped by cultures across the globe. Ghostly entities appear, dancing about the graveyard, as the spell causes the skin to transform into a magical artifact imbued with powers to change its appearance and to conceal its wearer.

As the spell completes, under cover of a magical storm, a spirit observer – which appears to be a giant eyeball with bat-wings and whithered arms – flaps into the cemetery, searching for the disturbance caused by the ritual. Francisco hurriedly snatches up the cloak and puts it on, concealing himself amidst the tombstones.

Aaron Lightfoot stumbles into the cemetery, investigating on his own – and bringing along the magical staff which was used earlier by members of the Sixth Kadam (in the aforementioned ritual to sacrifice Francisco). He is startled by ghosts, and drops the staff against the altar. Although he tries to retrieve it, he finds a fuff'nar on it … and while he deals with the fuff'nar, Francisco snatches up the artifact and disappears into the shadows again.

Aaron, in alarm, fells a Babelite guard with his blowgun, and almost catches Francisco (by stepping on one of his tails), but he is distracted again in the confusion. The Kitsune escapes, while Aaron discovers his mistake about the guard, and tends to the fallen bat.
