Kia, the Skeek tinker, travels to the Rephidim Docks, using an enchanted compass given to her by Fenter in order to seek out another component of the strange automaton she's acquired pieces of from the College Esoterica. Josef the not-very-talkative cougar Khatta bumbles into Kia, looking for some of his crewmen. The compass goes wild, and Kia looks up, finding one of the legs belonging to her automaton being used as part of a sign advertising the Wooden Leg Tavern. Kia heads in to talk to the proprietor, while Josef heads in to check and see if his crewmates are in there. Inside, there is an automated contraption playing music … and skipping, repeating the same part of the song over and over, to the consternation of the patrons. Kia intervenes to stop a Skreek from smashing the device, and Josef lends a hand to encourage the Skreek to be a little more patient, while Kia inspects the Titanian device. Kia figures it out and stops the offending music, earning the gratitude of the patrons. The bartender treats Kia to a free breakfast. Kia inquires about the wooden leg used for the sign outside, and offers to trade a real wooden leg (a prosthetic) in exchange for the blue leg. The Gallah bartender tentatively agrees, since the blue leg doesn't happen to be made out of wood. Encouraged, Kia sits down with Josef to enjoy her breakfast.
