After a bit of confusion from Axel's morning cawing, everyone has some breakfast and cleans up before heading down the canal of the Saber-Toothed Rabbit.
It's a long canal, and not as straight as the others have been, but it seems to be headed under the town and towards the mysterious barrow out in the swamp. They finally arrive at a large dock and pair of huge metallic-glass double doors. Zahn uses the key they found to get it open, and a lot of dust billows out.
They discover a workshop of sorts, hundreds of yards long and lit with glowing tubes. There's some sort of wrecked jet engine mounted near the entrance, and Zahn and Axel are immediately drawn to it.
Further down, the hangar-like room ends at a vertical shaft that goes down into darkness but has various levels connected by ramps and stairs, and presumably more big workshops. Axel jumps over the railing and glides down, until it gets too dark (and too steamy) for him to see. He makes a rough landing on the ramp, trying to follow two red lights he saw.
Another red light appears, and as Axel heads for it it moves away, eventually leading him up the ramps until it's bright enough for him to see his way. The light is pulled by a shadowy figure that the bird-man never gets to see clearly, and then it goes out when he gets to a brighter area. He picks it up and carries it back to the others.
Amy and Olivia get nervous, fearing that they're not alone. Zahn argues that even if Axel is to be believed, whomever led him back up clearly doesn't mean them any harm. Still, he eventually gives in and they exit the workshop.
