Piper caught a creen, but it turns up missing at the hostelry where he's staying. After a bit of sniffing around, he discerns that the creen, kept in a cage, bit the finger of a raccoon girl and wouldn't let go, and the owner of the establishment was only able to remove the creen by crushing its head. Piper seems not the least bit set back by this, as he seems sure he can catch another one.

Torn-Ear shows up again, this time with a job opportunity for Piper, clearing some creens out of a shop in Little Babel in the Bazaar. Piper takes the job enthusiastically, and proceeds to scare off the creens plaguing the store (which sells edible bugs – which the bugs are eating!) and he catches one creen in the process, though he dispatches another with a well-aimed shot with his bow and arrow (as the latter creen was a bit too determined to eat as many bugs as possible). This work earns Piper the enthusiastic applause of the patrons and owners of the shop.
