Aaron Lightfoot, Apothecary, visits the shop of a craftsman who created a duplicate of the stolen Dragon's Egg formerly in the possession of Lady Sedgewick. Aaron brings the egg under the pretense of wishing to have it prepared. The craftsman acknowledges making it for a theatre troupe, purportedly for a play called "The Mysterious Disappearance and Re-appearance of the Dragon's Egg". Aaron plays up this story, milking the craftsman for further information, and gets a lead on who might have served as a middleman to arrange for the construction of the fake treasure.
