After days of travel without any nearby sources of fresh water, Alptraum is weary of doing triple duty scouting, hunting, and fetching water. As an escape, he decides to visit Kaira in the spirit dagger that night, and pricks his finger.

This time, he finds himself in a strange, monumentally large cavern with a forest inside. Kaira is there with a small army of elves, dragons and other creatures that she sends into the forest to find a creature called the Nightflyer, that she hopes to trap within this pocket realm.

Alptraum offers to help, but Kaira tells him it would be dangerous, hinting that the Nightflyer and other 'Designated Leftovers' – those scheduled to be destroyed along with Vorgulremik – would go out of their way to do him in in order to postpone their fate.

The Nightflyer is found, and everyone evacuates to a neighboring realm belonging to an evil elf lord who has a fondness for the trappings of a barbarian king, even if an outrageously fanciful one. The troops go into his hall to relax until a new Gate can be opened, and Alptraum chats with a succubus.

Kaira seems to act either jealous or proprietary towards Alptraum, and the succubus backs off. The Eeee tells the dragon she's being too stiff and grumpy and needs to relax, and eventually she takes him to an exotic alien landscape where they can talk in private.
