Zoltan, Envoy and Vielanika sneak off to investigate the ruins of the City of Hands while a new camp is being set up within the canyon. They find a pyramid and a way to enter, encountering a couple of traps along the way. Inside the central chamber, they discover a complex contraption that serves as a model of the sky as visible from Sinai, as well as a map of Sinai itself. The purpose of the crystal hand in Zoltan's possession is discovered, and, if the purpose of this chamber has been discerned correctly, this could have far-reaching implications that the Temple might find objectionable
