At the College Esoterica, Chiaroscuro presents Haskalah with his chosen oddity, a K'trinzhai board, and then they and Envoy adjourn to her workshop. Envoy asks some strange questions. Haskalah is successfully able to mute Chiaroscuro's problems with Envoy's help, but only for a little while; she promises to explore whether mental exercises using similar techniques might be able to resolve the problem, and requites it of Chiaroscuro that he visit weekly on that basis, to speak of these and other matters that intrigue her
