After catching a ride on the Lady Matilda when it stops at Northern Shore, Umeko and Xander have a relatively easy time of it. On a particularly nice day, off the wild coast of Ai, they talk to the other scholars on board and learn of some of their discoveries and goals, while introducing themselves as well.

Umeko shows off her weapons, explaining the cultural and combat reasons behind their construction, when a lookout spots a totem pole on shore, and the boat diverts to investigate.
