Francisco, having conjured up a demonic entity and given it orders to "deal with" Chiri, has left the tent. This leaves Chiri alone in the tent with the demonic monster, which starts to spew forth poisonous gases.

She covers her face with damp gauze, and, on a hunch, starts throwing iron shekels at the creature, in the hope that the touch of iron will harm it. It doesn't … but a single silver coin appears to damage it. Chiri catches on, and throws everything at the monster with even the least bit of silver in it, then flees the tent as it catches fire.

Outside, Qing arrives with a small retinue of Guards, to witness the destruction of Chiri's tent, and the apparent death of the demonic creature. However, using magic, he discerns that the creature is about to EXPLODE, and tries to warn everyone away. X, Chiri's slave, returns with Little Reed, having chased the cub – who was following a "ghost light" toward the Old Cemetery. X scoops up Reed and Chiri and sprints for all he's worth, while Qing dives into the gutters and the wolves dash for cover. A dimwitted Zelak is too slow to react, and is consumed in the resulting explosion.

Chiri relates her story to Qing, and Qing offers to take Chiri to the Collegia Esoterica … letting it be reported that the Skreek died in the conflagration.
