Zahn and Parsley are understandably nervous about the ritual, never having been involved in any sort of magic before – and Zahn in particular is upset about having their blood mixed into some wine that they both have to drink. Natasha binds Parsley and Zahn's spirits together, and then the two enter a sort of dreamworld when Clover is added to the mix.

Parsley leads Zahn through corridors that seem to be chalk tunnels and fancy mansion halls at the same time, until the get more into Clover's mental territory. And then the mansion begins to take on mechanical aspects, like pipes and gears and clocks.

Finally, they reach a grand ballroom full of animated designs for machines and other more esoteric things. Zahn is able to collect them all, as they reduce down to pamphlets when he touches them. They find Clover at the end of the ballroom, clutching a notebook and with wires growing out of her head like hair.

She shows Zahn the notebook, which is labeled 'Notes 6040-6041 A. W.' and filled over and over with the phrase 'Find Me'. Also, the semi-familiar phrase 'No more blood from a stone' is written in Clover's own blood on the wall. Unable to get much of a story from the doe, beyond that the trolls took her and sang to her somehow before strapping her into a chair, Parsley and Zahn sever the wires by biting through them.

This brings the link between them to a close, and they wake up again. Clover is still groggy from the sedatives, and Zahn suggests a course of events to her that are less traumatic than what actually happened, since the drugs may make her believe it.

Zahn also has Igor check his scalp for hidden scars like Clover has, and the Skreek doesn't find any. But Zahn decides to check the head of Abner Wingnut, the clan founder and builder of the Mint Dam (who then tried to take over the town) for scars as well, since Amy's family kept it as a trophy.
