Envoy finds herself in the Dream Realm once more, this time in Sunala's realm, though not in the Sea of Souls, and apparently further up the mountain than she has a right to be. She struggles through a storm, climbing her way up the steps of a steep ziggurat, until she encounters Sunala herself, who seems fairly ambivalent about Envoy's presence. Sunala takes Envoy up to the top, where Sunala causes the illusory reality to fragment apart (alarming Envoy in the process), and then reforms it into a dream representation of the roof of Nicodemus's Shiny Shoppe, where Sunala has a bit of tea with Envoy alluding to a "bargain" that the foppish fox bard had attempted to make with Inala, should he win the contest (which he did not). Envoy tries to persuade Sunala to remove herself from the rituals of the Royal Babelite Mages, and in the end, Sunala claims that she wants no part in such a ritual, and offers to allow Envoy to return to the land of the living, provided that she takes no action against Sunala, Srinala, or the family of Pouncer Zoltan Sunala tells Envoy of the plight of Srinala, which angers Envoy, as this was not the outcome she desired. Envoy asks Sunala if a message could be sent through Srinala to the mages, and Sunala agrees to send it.
Back at the Dream Crossroads, Envoy finds that only one archway remains that of Inala. She then goes to the crystal prison of Morpheus, to visit him.
