Elijah comes to, after being on the verge of unconsciousness due to his wounds and the magic used to heal them. He learns from Mage Faust (formerly Dean Faust) that the intent here is to "exorcise" Srinala, returning her to her "natural state" that is, a vegetative state. Elijah is adamantly against this. Srinala awakens … but not as Srinala. She says that she has come to realize who she truly is: Sunala. In the ensuing mayhem, Elijah breaks free, and frees Sukara, and Sunala/Srinala holds Mage Faust at bay. Elijah threatens Faust into granting himself, Sukara and Sunala/Srinala free passage out of the College Esoterica grounds, and argues with Sunala/Srinala that she should seek to be a leader of the Babelite people, not a goddess. Elijah and the others are allowed to leave, but Mage Faust warns Elijah that he's gained a new enemy. Elijah, unfazed, insists that he has his own resources to call upon, and can be a formidable enemy as well.
