Skye, Lakshmi and Lochinvar face the "stomper" room again, after spending some time freeing animals and studying the areas they've explored so far. They carefully plan out their next move, and figure out a way for Lochinvar to time his path through a hallway full of stomping stone blocks. He makes it through, and finds a lever that turns off the trap.
Next, they encounter a riddling Sphynx. Skye figures out the answer on the first try. In the next room, they are presented with a logic puzzle involving nine gems, one of which is either heavier or lighter (unknown which) than the others, and they must determine which one it is with only three uses of a balance. Skye once again solves this one, devising an algorithm that allows him to pick out the proper gem on the first try.
Past this door, they go up a staircase, passing from the stone level up to a new, metal level. They observe a balcony, bed room and dining room, as well as two locked doors, and alcoves with several small statues of burrowing creatures in them. In the center of all this is another room, open to the sky, with a chair set in front of several levers and glowing crystals, and with a table in the center of the room with a depression in its center and four discs. They discover that of the four discs, the sandstone disc fits neatly in the depression, but they do not find any place to put the other discs. While experimenting with the levers, they discern that these allow them to turn off the various traps and troubles found elsewhere in the tower.
After more puzzling over the purpose of the discs and the table, and how to open the locked doors, our heroes at last call it a day, resolving to tackle the remaining puzzle later.
