The Minister of Savanite Affairs is summonned from his work to attend a ceremony on the causeway leading up to the Imperial Palace. Several other Gingai dignitaries arrive, as well as the Keeper of Memories, an ancient Naga that is likely older than the Emperor himself. Bassai's statue is revealed, along with vandalism it has suffered; Someone has painted it over in yellow, with black spots, to make the Ringneck Naga appear to be a Savanite. The minister is bothered enough by this event to try and cut the ceremony short, but is prompted to deliver a speach for the occasion. Bassai does so, speaking of the honour this statue represents to him. How he was inspired by the other statues as a young Naga, and how each one represents a slither forward for the Nagai Empire. His patriotism and passion rouses the crowd, and they give him thunderous tailslaps on the ground as a way to show their approval. After everyone has departed, except for Bassai and the Sculptor, the Ringnech archeologist notices a lone figure. It turns out to be Tekki, accompanied with his betrothed, Rainbow. Bassai extends an invitation for Tekki and Rainbow to be his guests, and the former master and former slave discuss the possible problems associated with this. Finally, they fall silent to admire the statue, which shines with a golden glow in the sunset.
