Envoy gets a tour of the College Esoterica in Rephidim, along with seven other newly-inducted apprentices. (Ironically, she looks like the oldest of the bunch, though she's actually the youngest.) She is warned by the guide after the tour not to go near the School of Mind – Envoy reasons that Dean Malthus must still hold the Isstan incident against her.

Envoy meets a Dream Apprentice Korv by the name of Xavier, and tells him about Morpheus. A Lion Khatta Seer enters the room, and asks the apprentices to come with him … but for Envoy to wait there. After a very long pause, three Spirit Mages come into the library, and then a small apparition appears above the desk where Envoy sits. The Spirit Mages use spells to ensnare this little magical spy, and then once the spirit vanishes, Mage Qing arrives, and reveals that he has determined the source of this magical spy – It originated in the palace of the High Prince Boghaz of Babel. Envoy is encouraged to take care.
