Jynx, now known as 'Snow-Fur', and proving to be quickly learning Savanite hand-sign, helps earn his keep by hunting down a Bromthen forest-hog in the Xenean jungle. He succeeds in spooking and then cornering the monster – and killing it – but suffers a severe wound in the process. He is taken into the care of a healer, Tears-of-Blood, who is one of the Twelve-times-Twelve. Tears- of-Blood evidently knows of Jynx's true identity as a non-Savanite, and educates him further about the City of Hands.
