Tasha enters the chamber of MOTHER, an ancient light-and-crystal computer system developed by the space-faring race, the Silent Ones. It soon becomes clear that the computer system has expanded its control of The Fenris, and, terrifyingly enough, used that control to kill Lt. Nora Argentine! The Vartan argues with the computer over this tragic event, as well as the machine's purpose, but it reveals itself to be controlled by both the mysterious 'Directive Zero' and by the Sifran artifacts. Unwilling to release the artifacts to Tasha/Nora, the machine vows to kill 'Nora' again, forcing Tasha to quickly evacuate the computer room and warn the others!
